Young musicians from Central Bedfordshire shine at Battle of the Bands

Young musicians supported by Central Bedfordshire Council’s Inspiring Music service took to the stage at the first BLMK Battle of the Bands Regional Final last month.

The event, organised by the BLMK Music Hub and held at The Stables in Milton Keynes, brought together bands from across Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes following a series of local heats.

Representing Central Bedfordshire were Avenida from Queensbury Academy, Life Before Seatbelts from Harlington Upper School, and Dynasty from Vandyke Upper School. (pictured)

The regional final gave students the opportunity to perform on a professional stage in front of a live audience, with access to industry-standard sound, lighting and production. Following a strong line-up of performances from across the region, the overall winners were Edith Dog from Bedford Modern School, with LYRA from Luton taking second place.

Cllr Gareth Mackey, Executive Member for Children’s Services, said: “It’s great to see young people from Central Bedfordshire getting the chance to take part in something like this and perform on a bigger stage. Well done to all the students who took part. Taking part in events like this is an achievement in itself, and our bands did themselves and their schools proud. I was immensely proud of the bands representing Central Bedfordshire! I am sure we will see more of them in years to come and would encourage them to ‘rock on’!

“Music plays an important role in helping young people build confidence, express themselves and connect with others. Through Inspiring Music, we are committed to making sure young people continue to have access to opportunities like this, supporting them to develop their skills and progress as musicians.”

Inspiring Music provides opportunities for young people across Central Bedfordshire to learn, perform and develop their musical skills, supporting their progression from local sessions to regional events such as Battle of the Bands and Beds Band Factory.
