Leighton Buzzard Parks and Play Areas Guide

Leighton Buzzard Parks and Play Areas Guide

Leighton Buzzard and the surrounding areas are home to lots of wonderful parks, play areas, and recreation grounds. These are perfect places to play with your children, walk your dog, or just go for a stroll amongst the trees and flowers – and they’re all free!

Leighton Buzzard

Parson’s Close Recreation Ground

This is a Green Flag Award-winning park which includes a skate park, picnic areas, an inclusive play area, community garden, café, play park, table tennis tables, and accessible toilets. In the summer months, the free Beach and Splash ‘n’ Play area (see featured image) are open daily 10am-4:30pm Monday-Friday and 10am-5pm Saturday-Sunday. From June to September on Sunday afternoons between 3-5pm, you can also enjoy live music from local bands at the historic bandstand. Visit:  LU7 1AD

Tiddenfoot Waterside Park

A former quarry, this is now a lovely park with a lake full of wildlife. There are picnic areas, bird watching areas, and lots of walking trails, some of which lead to the Grand Union Canal if you want a longer walk. Home to the Leighton Linslade Canal Festival. Visit: LU7 2AE

Pages Park

Another Green Flag Award-winning park as well as a Field in Trust, Pages Park has a free to use tennis court, basketball court, cricket table, green gym with 17 workout stations, community garden, and play park. The Croquet Club is based here as well, and the pavilion is home to several different groups and clubs. The Leighton Buzzard Narrow Gauge Railway also runs from here. Visit LU7 4TG

Linslade Recreation Ground

This large Green Flag Award-winning park is just outside Leighton Buzzard station, making it a perfect spot to wait for your train. It includes free to use green gym equipment, a table tennis table, a well-equipped children’s play area, and a beautiful community garden. Visit: LU7 2NR

Linslade Memorial Playing Fields and Garden of Remembrance

With a large open space linking to the Grand Union Canal, two play areas, free to use table tennis table, cricket table, and green gym equipment, it’s not surprising this has won both a Green Flag Award and Fields in Trust status. It’s also home to the Linslade Tennis Club, which has three full-size courts and a mini court for younger players, and the Linslade Memorial Pavillion where various groups and clubs meet. The Garden of Remembrance is a peaceful area with beautiful flowers, perfect for quiet reflection. Visit: LU7 2NZ

Astral Park

Astral Park is a very large open space with free to use green gym equipment, running track, and children’s play equipment, along with several football pitches. The Sports and Community Centre hosts various groups and clubs as well as being available to hire for private parties and functions. There’s also a lovely community orchard, which was planted in 2011 with 14 different fruit trees and lots of wildflowers, all of which attract bees, insects, and birds to the area. Visit: LU7 4AY

Vandyke Road Playing Field and Cemetery

This park is ideal for anyone wanting to improve their BMX, rollerblading, scooter, or skateboarding tricks! The BMX track has recently been refurbished, providing the perfect place for people of all ages and skill levels to practise. There’s also a good- sized playing field, a playground, and free to use green gym equipment, and it has also been awarded Green Flag status. Visit: LU7 3HS

Danes Way Playing Field

This park is the other place to try out your bike skills as it also has a recently refurbished BMX Track, along with a good-sized field and a children’s play area. Visit: LU7 3LS

Ouzel Meadows

These traditional water meadows provide 34 acres of walking paths along the River Ouzel to the Grand Union Canal. They flood seasonally which supports plants and flowers that aren’t found in other parks. Look out for information boards that explain the benefits of flooding, and for the cattle that graze there!
