Is this the biggest April Fools Ever? – The British Tea Time Alarm

This nationwide prank has taken hold and we are love it!

Ahead of April Fools Day we have been chuckling about this nationwide prank perpetrated by the British to our friends over the pond in the good old US of A (politics aside of course).

“Like, is this an actual thing?”

People have taken to Tik Tok in their thousands and Instagram in their millions to share moments in their lives as ‘The British Tea Time Alarm’ goes off at 3pm every day.

So what is going on?

It is a national prank that has gone viral playing on the idea that the British love tea and also, can we say, to the gullibility of American’s belief in our “quaint traditions”.

Perpetrating the myth that in Britain a tea alarm sounds every day at 3pm and you must drink tea or risk being fined, taken to court, or even imprisoned and the British sense of humour knows no bounds when coming up with stories of missing the tea alarm!

and some of our US friends were concerned

“genuinely I want to know what you do when the alarm goes off for tea time” @BrandyLeigh asked on TikTok

Big Brands, Government and Celebrities on Board

This innocent prank has captured the imagination of brands and institutions alike;

Celebs like Britain’s Got Talent’s Simon Cowell, Capital Radio presenter, Niall Gray and even the Beefeaters at the Tower of London have got in on the action.

It has also spawned accounts being created dedicated to educating people about the British Tea Time Alarm

Of course most Americans are happy to join the fun and recognise the ‘British sense of humour’ and at a time when the political world is going mad it is refreshing to see so many of us offer genuine advice and support to concerned cousins across the pond about what to do when the alarm goes off!
