Cyclists invited to take on scenic challenge

Cyclists can now book their place for Willen Hospice’s Cycle Sportive 2026 on
Sunday 6 September, which winds through the beautiful Buckinghamshire and
Northamptonshire countryside.

Starting and finishing at The Good Gym in Milton Keynes, the event offers the
chance to take on a fully supported 37-mile, 65-mile or 100-mile route while raising
vital funds for local hospice care.

Designed to welcome riders of all abilities, the annual sportive combines personal
challenge, community spirit and fantastic scenic views. Each route will have feed and
water stations, and support vehicles on hand. All registered riders will receive a
medal and a bite to eat as they finish.

Booking a place in advance online costs £35 per person, or £40 if you sign up on the
day. Riders are encouraged to fundraise a minimum of £75, which will go towards
the Hospice’s free of charge care and support services for local people affected by
life-limiting illness. There is also a new £100 self-funded ticket option, allowing
cyclists to take part without committing to fundraising.

Roger from Buckingham is already looking forward to the day. “This will be my
seventh time participating in this very well organised event and I love it,” he said.
“The atmosphere on the day is always fantastic but it’s not just about the cycling. It’s
about being part of a community united by a common purpose: to support an
important local cause.”

Nikki Poole, Willen Hospice’s Community Fundraising and Events Manager, said:
“Cycle Sportive has become a real highlight in our events calendar because it brings
the local cycling community together for one incredible day to champion our vital
work. Whether you’re taking on your first-ever cycling challenge or pushing yourself
to complete 100 miles, every single rider helps make a difference for local families
who are relying on the Hospice’s expert care and support.”

This year’s event will honour the contribution of dedicated volunteer Preston Ayres,
who planned and routed the Hospice’s Cycle Sportive for the last eight years, and
sadly passed away recently.
