October is packed with things to do around Leighton Buzzard, from live music and theatre to half-term family activities and a rather special remembrance installation just down the road.

Here are a few of our picks for the month.

Indoor Dog Show – Saturday 7th October

An evening Indoor Fun Dog Show on, held at Kensworth Village Hall LU6 3RJ. Whether your dog is a seasoned pro or a family favourite with a waggy tail, there is a class for everyone! Doors open at 6.00pm. Entries on the night £2 per class.

Town Mayor Quiz Night – Friday 16th October

Join the Mayor for a fun filled charity night in aid of Freddie & Friends. Hosted at Leighton Town Football Club the £15 ticket includes an interval grazing platter. Tickets and more information

Poppy Prom – Saturday 17 October

The annual Poppy Prom returns to All Saints Church in Church Square at 7pm. The Bedfordshire Band of the Royal British Legion will provide the music, joined by Chanteuses, with a Parade of Standards and an Act of Remembrance forming part of the evening. The concert marks the local launch of this year’s Poppy Appeal. TryBooking

Standing with Giants at Waddesdon – from Wednesday 21 October

One of the most striking events locally this autumn takes place at Waddesdon Manor, where Standing with Giants brings its For Your Tomorrow installation back from Normandy.

The installation features 1,476 life-sized silhouettes, representing those serving under British command who lost their lives on D-Day, together with figures honouring members of the French Resistance. It will be at Waddesdon from 21 October to 29 November. standingwithgiants.co.uk

Punk Night – Friday 23rd October

The Crooked Crow Bar hosts the superb Green Day tribute featuring The Wenz Day on Friday 23rd October, with doors at 8pm. At the time of writing tickets are showing as unavailable, with a waiting list in operation. WeGotTickets

Stargazing at Ascott Estate – Friday 23 October

UK Astronomy comes to Ascott Estate in Wing for a family-friendly evening exploring the night sky.

The evening begins at 7.15pm with an introduction to the Solar System, planets, moons and constellations, followed by outdoor stargazing using telescopes and binoculars if the weather allows. If the clouds refuse to cooperate, there will be an indoor night-sky presentation instead. It is recommended for ages 12+. UK Astronomy

Three Little Pigs – Wednesday 28 October

There’s half-term theatre at Leighton Buzzard Library Theatre with The Three Little Pigs, an interactive family musical packed with songs, dancing and audience participation.

The show starts at 2pm on Wednesday 28 October and runs for around 55 minutes. Lost The Plot Theatrical

Adult Sip & Paint – Wednesday 28 October

For something a little more grown-up, The Work Shop hosts an Adult Sip & Paint ceramic painting session. Choose a piece of bisque to decorate, with pottery ranging from smaller pieces such as coasters through to larger serving bowls. This was one of the events included in the October edition of Bee Local. The Work Shop

Brilliant Bats and Super Spiders – Wednesday 28 October

The Natural History Museum at Tring explores some of our most misunderstood creatures with a free tabletop activity looking at the special adaptations of bats and spiders.

There are specimens to handle and plenty of myth-busting along the way. It is recommended for ages five and over. The activity itself isn’t ticketed, although visitors are advised to reserve their free museum admission in advance. Tring Museum

Art Exhibition and Sale – Friday 30th – Saturday 31st October

Local artists displayed in the beautiful All Saints Church Leighton Buzzard. Meet the artists and an opportunity to purchase art and refreshments. www.lbas.org.uk

Half-term ideas

There is plenty happening through the school break too. Local options include the Autumn Trail at Rushmere Country Park from 23 October to 1 November, the Leighton Buzzard Railway Steam Gala on 24–25 October, and Freaky Fun Fest at Mead Open Farm from 24–31 October. Find More Here
