Sweet Sounds in Leighton Buzzard.

The gospel choir ‘MK Sweet Sound’ are soon to be filling the airwaves at All Saints Church in Leighton Buzzard as a joyful fundraiser for Christian Aid.  The concert is on Saturday 16th May, 7pm.  Expect free entry, an interval, beautiful singing and amazing harmonies.  There will be a cash collection on the way out.

‘MK Sweet Sound’ was formed 4 years ago as a gospel choir to celebrate the 250th anniversary of one of the world’s most beloved hymns, Amazing Grace.  It was written by the Reverend John Newton to accompany his service in Olney Parish Church on New Years Day 1773.  It was sung there again almost 250 years to the day, by ‘MK Sweet Sound’, led by musical director Craig McLeish as part of the BBC’s ‘Songs of Praise’ commemoration in January 2023.

The initiative for the concert came from members of the Justice and Peace group at the Catholic church in LB.  Having heard the choir, they were blown away with their quality and dedication.  The choir were asked whether they would perform locally as a fund-raiser for Christian Aid and they have offered their services for free.  All Saints church have willingly agreed to host the concert and the acoustics should be beautiful.  It is hoped that by locating the concert in the centre of town, it will bring all the churches and interested town folk together.

Christian Aid is a major UK based international development and humanitarian charity and works with partners in roughly 30 countries to eradicate poverty, fight injustice and provide emergency relief, guided by values of dignity, equality and justice, something that the choir supports wholeheartedly.  Christian Aid holds its national annual fundraising appeal in mid-May.  It used to be a door-to-door appeal, but this stopped during covid.

It is hoped that this concert at All Saints Church on Saturday 16th May, 7pm will rekindle popular support for this great charity.  Bring your friends and family and some cash for the collection (Gift Aid envelopes will be available).  There’s no need to book in advance.  In a time when it feels quite difficult to make a positive difference, hopefully coming together to celebrate the promise of the gospel message will have people smiling as they leave and recommitted to hope and action.
