Local Filmmakers Hit Big Screen as Buzz Cinema Festival Returns
Buzz Cinema film festival returns to Leighton Buzzard this May, featuring a strong line-up of films by local filmmakers from across Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, and Hertfordshire.
Running from May 8 to 17, the world-class film festival showcases short films from emerging filmmakers to industry professionals, including award-winning producers, writers, and directors. This year, 50% of the films screened at the event were created by local emerging talent or had local crew members, and over ten films were filmed in and around the three counties.
Ahead of the festival’s return, Director of Buzz Cinema Lobke van Eijk said: “Buzz Cinema has always championed homegrown talent, showcasing local creatives’ work within their own communities while celebrating established filmmakers.

“However, at a time when opportunities for creative collaboration in the UK are under pressure, it’s more important than ever to bring creatives together to connect and collaborate. Our goal is to cement Buzz Cinema as a bridge between emerging filmmakers and the industry, giving local talent direct access to experts from across the UK while also empowering and upskilling the communities we work in.”
Returning for its fifth year, Buzz Cinema will screen more than 30 films across the ten-day festival, featuring documentaries, short films, and experimental works. Not to be missed events include local stories, such as the documentary Cy Gregory: This One’s For You, about one of Bedfordshire’s most prolific pro-wrestlers, Cy Gregory, written by local talent Lee Malone.

Alongside screenings, attendees can take part in hands-on workshops led by industry experts, designed to upskill participants in areas such as sound and editing. These sessions offer practical experience and insight into the filmmaking process.
Events will take place at venues across Leighton Buzzard, with the full programme available online. Early bird festival passes, priced at £25 and including two free screenings, will be available from April 1 to 20 on Eventbrite, with standard passes on sale from April 21.
