Leighton Buzzard’s S J Pierce Celebrate National Lorry Week Alex Mayer MP salutes ‘unsung heroes’ keeping Britain moving
Lorry drivers who keep Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard on the move have been celebrated as part of National Lorry Week.
Organised by the Road Haulage Association, the annual campaign highlights the skills and opportunities in the haulage sector and showcases the industry’s vital role in supporting growth and everyday life.
As part of the week, family run haulage firm S&J Pierce invited local MP Alex Mayer to their Leighton Buzzard site.
The independent company has built up its reputation over thirty year and specialises in “just-in-time” freight movements to and from Italy, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and other key European destinations. In their meeting with the MP they raised some post-Brexit concerns about the 90/180 rule and the new Entry/Exit System. Ms Mayer pledged to raise these matters with ministers.
Alex Mayer MP said:
“Whether it’s apples, medicines, clothes or newspapers, most of us don’t stop to think about how products get from A to B – until something goes wrong and shelves run empty.
“Our drivers play an essential role in keeping the economy moving, and they deserve huge thanks for the work they do every single day.”
National Lorry Week runs until 9 November.
