Join the Zoo Crew at Whipsnade Zoo this summer
Role play as a Zookeeper, Animal Nutritionist, Field Conservationist and Scientist at UK’s largest zoo
ATTENTION all wild adventurers and budding conservationists – Whipsnade Zoo is seeking new recruits for its all-new summer event, Zoo Crew.
From Saturday 18th July to Wednesday 2nd September, young explorers can grab a shovel, pull on some wellies, or throw on a lab coat – and roleplay a day in the life at the UK’s largest zoo.
Young visitors can step into the shoes of a Zookeeper, Animal Nutritionist, Field Conservationist, and Scientist, and explore what it takes to work at a conservation zoo – from feeding the animals carefully-planned meals, to understanding what it takes to protect them in the wild.
Intrepid youngsters can get stuck into the life of a zookeeper by scooping some poop, then don an apron and help prepare lunch for some of the animals that call the conservation zoo home – following guides from Whipsnade Zoo’s expert nutritionists to make sure the animals are getting exactly what they need to be happy and healthy.
Finally, budding researchers can put their conservation skills to the test, by searching for clues to identify different animals, then put on some waders and explore the wildlife beneath the surface of the river Lea, to get a glimpse of the work ZSL – the charity which runs Whipsnade Zoo – is doing to protect European eels.
When all tasks have been completed, youngsters will graduate to being a certified member of the ‘Zoo Crew’ and they can explore the rest of the Zoo’s beautiful 600-acre site, which is home to more than 10,000 animals, including a one-month-old Asian elephant calf, and seven spotty cheetah cubs.
As part of ZSL’s 200th birthday celebrations, visitors can also pay a visit to the heritage exhibition, delve into ZSL’s rich history, and learn about the charity’s global impact on science, conservation, and culture over the last two centuries.
Anyone booking online to visit Whipsnade Zoo on or before 2 September 2026 will qualify for a FREE return visit, and families can save up to £35 with a family ticket.
A great value day out for the family, all Zoo Crew activities are included with zoo entry. Book tickets online at www.whipsnadezoo.org
