It’s full steam ahead for the Leighton Buzzard and District Men’s Shed!
Since its formation nine months ago, the Leighton Buzzard and District Men’s Shed (LB and DMS) has developed from an idea formulated over a cup of coffee to a thriving organisation with two operating centres, a growing membership and a raft of projects in hand.
“It all started when Leighton-Linslade Town Council invited local residents to a meeting in a coffee shop in Linslade to discuss the possibility of forming a men’s shed,”
says LB&DMS Chairman Ian Bickers.
“Men’s Sheds are all about preserving and promoting men’s good health for the public benefit, and the interest certainly was there – the café was packed. From that meeting several of us agreed to take the idea forward and today we’re a registered charity with five trustees and a membership of around 30 – which is growing by the week.
“Finding premises was our biggest challenge and we were delighted when the
Leighton Buzzard Narrow Gauge Railway invited us into their facilities. Today we
have regular meetings and interest groups using the Railway’s Community Room in
Page’s Park and two sessions per week in the Woodwork Shop at the Stonehenge
end of the line – we have much to thank the railway for and are extremely grateful for
the help they have given us.
There’s loads of things going on at the Shed from skill sharing to woodworking projects and we have Interest Groups for photography and family history. We’d be delighted to welcome anyone interested in joining the Shed and the easiest way to get involved is by coming along to one of our weekly 2:00pm Tuesday afternoon drop-in sessions at Page’s Park, or by visiting our website, www.lbshed.org , or
emailing us at hello@lbshed.org
