Hospice of St Francis Plant Sale

The Hospice of St Francis is delighted to announce the return of its much-loved Plant Sale, taking place on Saturday 16th May 2026, from 10am to 2pm at Spring Garden Lane in Berkhamsted. This popular annual fundraiser has become a firm favourite for green-fingered enthusiasts and local families alike, attracting hundreds of keen gardeners each year.

Visitors will be welcomed into the Hospice’s beautiful grounds to explore a wide variety of summer bedding plants, perennials, vegetables and more, all carefully selected to help gardens thrive throughout the season. Alongside the plant stalls, guests can enjoy teas, coffees and cakes, plus a refreshing stop at the onsite ice cream van.

This year’s event features an exciting programme of attractions, including a raffle, marquee tent and an opportunity to see our newly-built yurt. Well-behaved dogs on leads are also warmly welcomed, making the day enjoyable for the whole family. Organisers encourage attendees to car share where possible due to limited onsite parking. The event will open promptly at 10am and close at 2pm.

The Plant Sale has a remarkable fundraising history. Since its inception in 1997, it has raised over £149,000 to support the Hospice’s specialist care, including an impressive £11,075 in 2025 alone. Such achievements are made possible thanks to the generosity of the community, including the dedicated Markyate Plant Sale Team and the many garden centres and nurseries who continue to support the Hospice.

The Plant Sale simply wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of Hospice volunteers who help co-ordinate this special event year on year, and the generosity of supporters. 2026 will be the fourth year that the plant sale is held in the Hospice grounds and there will be more plants and cake than ever before. By 2030, the Hospice will need to double the reach of its care and every plant purchased helps them to continue delivering vital care to the people in our local community.
