2 Good News Stories

Who doesn’t love good news? Here’s a couple of stories we love from our area. Music Awards and School turns it around.

Dovery Academy Recognised as an ‘Outstanding’ School Across All Areas
Following an Ofsted inspection on 13th and 14th May, the Knowledge Schools Trust is delighted to share that Dovery Academy has been judged ‘outstanding’ across all areas.

The primary school, which was rated ‘inadequate’ in October 2021 has now been transformed into a school where pupils are “exceptionally eager to learn in this school’s calm and purposeful environment.”

The primary converted to an academy in September 2022 and became part of the Knowledge Schools
Trust.

The school was also recognised for how its “knowledge-rich curriculum sets out clearly what pupils will learn at each stage. It has a sharp focus on widening pupils’ vocabulary and confidence to be able to articulate their thoughts and ideas. Pupils develop a detailed knowledge about the subjects they learn.”

Additional highlights of the report include:

“The way the school promotes pupils’ personal development is exceptional. A range of experiences develop pupils’ cultural understanding and appreciation for different faiths. Pupils engage in
meaningful discussions inspired by books on moral and social topics such as war and bereavement. Pupils responsibly take on leadership roles. Trips and visits broaden pupils’ horizons and enhance their
development. They build confidence and independence by participating in activities such as den building, music performances and leading assemblies.”

“Learning in the early years prepares children exceptionally well for their next stage. Staff skilfully support and guide children’s learning through play. Developing children’s communication and language is a key priority.

“Pupils develop a strong sense of community and friendship. They thoroughly enjoy using the woodland area to explore nature and build dens together. Pupils make a highly tangible contribution to the life of their school and local area. They responsibly organise lunchtime clubs and games. Pupils participate in keeping their local area free of litter and help each other to raise funds for chosen charities.“

Quotes from Sarah Cavender, Head Teach of Dovery Academy

“Our staff are a wonderful team of people and over the past three
years, we have worked tirelessly to make the school an excellent
place to learn, which has now been recognised by Ofsted. During the
inspection, I was so impressed with our children and the passion with
which they talked about their learning and their school. For me, this is
the purpose of education, to empower our pupils to become
confident, articulate and independent young people and I am very
proud of all we have achieved. ”

Prospective parents and carers can visit on one of their open mornings at 9:15am on 11th, 17th or 25th of September. To book a place, please contact the school office: doveryoffice@doveryacademy.org.
