Leighton Buzzard and Linslade Shine in Best Bar None Awards Scheme
Central Bedfordshire Council recently celebrated the achievements of 19 venues in the prestigious Best Bar None accreditation for 2024. Among the standout performers were pubs and venues from Leighton Buzzard and Linslade, which continue to set the benchmark for excellence in responsible alcohol licensing and management.
The national Best Bar None scheme, which promotes safer and more vibrant town centres, was first introduced to Central Bedfordshire in 2017, starting with Leighton Buzzard, Dunstable, and Houghton Regis. Its success in these areas, particularly in Leighton Buzzard, led to its expansion across the entire county in 2022. This initiative has been instrumental in raising standards and fostering collaboration between local venues, Bedfordshire Police, and Fire Services.
Participating venues undergo a thorough assessment process to earn accreditation, assuring customers that they are visiting well-managed and safe establishments. In addition to this, the Council supports the scheme with innovative safety measures such as the radio link system, connecting venues with each other and the CCTV control room to address incidents or suspicious activity. Training sessions on topics like spiking awareness further bolster the safety standards across the area.
Notably, Central Bedfordshire Council was recognised for its efforts at the national level, receiving the ‘Best County’ Scheme award at the House of Lords in February 2024.
