Leighton Buzz Radio Founder Farewell
After years of dedicated service, Andrena Carden-White stepped down as the founder and manager of Leighton Buzz Radio on 28th Februrary 2025 .
Founded in 2019, Andrena entered the male-dominated radio industry with no prior experience. Overcoming her lack of technology and software know-how with the belief that Leighton Buzzard deserved its own dedicated station. Even going on to assist another woman to start her own station.
Under Andrena’s guidance, Leighton Buzz Radio expanded from a modest five shows to a vibrant 24/7 platform that brought the community closer through music, stories, and local news. Notable moments include broadcasting during the Leighton Buzzard earthquake and on-air coverage ahead of national stations for the respective deaths of HRH Prince Philip of HRH Queen Elizabeth II. The station provided daily shows for children during lockdown, featuring world story readings that were later donated to the KidsOut charity and offering a much needed support network for volunteers during the isolation.

During Andrena’s tenure, Leighton Buzz Radio volunteers have attended numerous local events, interviewed hundreds of local personalities, charities, and organizations, and facilitated among many highlights, ‘takeover’ Christmas shows by local schools.

Comments from the community
Previous team member and current Town Mayor, David Bligh said:-
“Andrena has and continues to play a huge role in bringing local, community-based information to residents of the Leighton-Linslade area. As Leighton Buzz Radio moves to a Mixcloud podcast library it is the perfect time for her to hand over the reins allowing her much needed time to work on Bee Local Magazine and Buzzstock Music Festival which is now in it’s 4th year.”
Her commitment to fostering community spirit and enabling over 40 local presenters and young people to broadcast has left an indelible mark on the town.
Harriet Flitton drivetime presenter at Vibe 107.6 Fm recalls:-
“ I reached out to Andrena in 2020 at the beginning of my radio journey. She got me started with training and setting up my first show with support and kindness. Within 2 weeks I was taking part in a live studio. It was a great introduction which led on to my radio career, first hosting a breakfast show on a digital station before moving on to drivetime at Vibe and also my own podcast. It all began with Leighton Buzz Radio and building my skills and I am thankful for Andrena’s guidance.”
Andrena expressed heartfelt gratitude to the listeners, sponsors, and all the volunteers for their incredible support over the years.
“It has been an incredible journey, and I am proud of what we have all achieved together. It is sad to say goodbye but the time is right” said Andrena.
What Next?
Andrena continues her work on Bee Local Magazine and Buzzstock Music Festival which also contribute publicity and support to local charities. She continues her commitment to the Leighton Buzzard community by sponsoring the town council’s annual business network event and funding and managing the town council’s Leighton Linslade Directory.
What Next for Leighton Buzz Radio?
With Andrena’s departure, Leighton Buzz Radio will continue as a podcast library under new management. She hopes the community will explore the exciting offerings of the Leighton Buzz Radio podcast Library on Mixcloud and consider adding their own community podcasts to continue to support local voices.
